In late 2003, Eric decided to assemble a new Kid Icarus band for live performance and recording. With the exception of a small stint where Kid Icarus played with a band back in 1999, Kid Icarus live shows have always been mainly a solo-acoustic thing. The first band lineup back in 1999 included Justin Marchegiani on lead guitar, Eric's brother Jeff on Bass and Steve Guse on drums, with Chuck Keller briefly playing keyboards. The Mach I version of the Kid Icarus band played a few shows with varying degrees of success, but the lineup proved to be unstable and lasted for only a few months. (Please see our MP3s section for an example of this lineup in action.) Fast forward back to 2003. Drawing on a pool of talent that Eric had utilized in both live and recording settings in the past, with a new friend along, Kid Icarus plotted to become a band again. With a gig at The Knitting Factory in New York City hanging over their head, and less than a month to practice, the group hunkered down. Ted Baird (who had been playing keyboards and guitar on Kid Icarus recordings) returned to playing bass (the instrument he played with Eric back in the '90s with thier first band together Suetta), Thad Moyer took up drums and Justin stayed on lead guitar. Thus, we have the birth of Kid Icarus' permanent lineup! Kid Icarus the band continues to rock, record and play the occasional show. |
